Wind is blowing on the swing, length of braids,
There's still a hint of laughter in my hair.
Sweetness of candy bites the tongue like acids,
And still you can feel carefree ease in the air.
Years later, listening to music on the same swing,
I adjust my shoulder-length to tune of sad lines,
Thinking no one understands and trying to sing,
I'm pulling up my no-longer-childish school tights.
Growing up, on the same swings, deciding my fate,
I thought how suffocating it is to be an adult.
Although feeling still light wind blowing my bob,
I crumple a candy wrapper in hand — my youth's mate.
Now my no-nonsense pixie is too short for the breeze,
And there's no longer a hint of that childish bright smile.
Already gone through a tough way, set for new leaves,
Wishing to make their lives easier than was mine.
