Burial
Edna St. Vincent Millay · Public domain
Mine is a body that should die at sea!
And have for a grave, instead of a grave
Six feet deep and the length of me,
All the water that is under the wave!

And terrible fishes to seize my flesh,
Such as a living man might fear,
And eat me while I am firm and fresh,--
Not wait till I've been dead for a year!

Home
Rupert Brooke · Public domain
I came back late and tired last night
  Into my little room,
To the long chair and the firelight
  And comfortable gloom.

But as I entered softly in
  I saw a woman there,
The line of neck and cheek and chin,
  The darkness of her hair,
The form of one I did not know
  Sitting in my chair.

I stood a moment fierce and still,
  Watching her neck and hair.
I made a step to her; and saw
That there was no one there.

It was some trick of the firelight
That made me see her there.
It was a chance of shade and light
And the cushion in the chair.

Oh, all you happy over the earth,
That night, how could I sleep?
I lay and watched the lonely gloom;
  And watched the moonlight creep
From wall to basin, round the room.
All night I could not sleep.

Earlier this week
The Empty Space
Rue .
World full of people,
but none like you.
Your space never filled.
Him, family, friends,
searching every corner i could.
Foolish of me to believe,
i'd find a love like yours.
Never valued you when you were here,
and now as every day passes
the pain just keeps building up.
Did stupid things to feel better,
but only made it worse.
They say "you will forget as time passes"
but only we know how it really feels.
Hating shopping because
its always a mother and daughter thing.
Realizing everyday how it would all be better with you here.
Neither would he have suffered nor would I.
Its empty, the house is empty.
So is the heart and mind.
Not knowing what to do and how to live,
we still manage to push ourselves day and night.

The Moon Isn’t So Lonely
Velvet Moon
When someone looks up and admires
The majestic beauty that often gets ignored
Because of its dull and sometimes crimson light

They can see a light that opens
Up a door for more and more
To be revealed and to be loved
One has to be noticed

But then of course
How is it that one can be noticed
When lights have been dimmed around them

It's the inside of one's own struggling heart
That screams like all the rest
For some sort of recognition

And my what a treasure its glorious light can be
If a body only takes some time
To love the moon night by night
And see its beauty in the eyes of eternity

Lizzie and the Baby
Eugene Field · Public domain
I wonder ef all wimmin air
Like Lizzie is when we go out
To theatres an’ concerts where
Is things the papers talk about.
Do other wimmin fret an’ stew
  Like they wuz bein’ crucified--
Frettin’ show or concert through,
With wonderin’ ef the baby cried?

Now Lizzie knows that gran’ma’s there
To see that everything is right,
Yet Lizzie thinks that gran’ma’s care
  Ain’t good enuff f’r baby, quite;
Yet what am I to answer when
She kind uv fidgets at my side,
An’ asks me every now and then:
“I wonder if the baby cried?”

Seems like she seen two little eyes
  A-pinin’ f’r their mother’s smile--
Seems like she heern the pleadin’ cries
  Uv one she thinks uv all the while;
An’ so she’s sorry that she come,
An’ though she allus tries to hide
The truth, she’d ruther stay to hum
Than wonder ef the baby cried.

Yes, wimmin folks is all alike--
  By Lizzie you kin jedge the rest;
There never wuz a little tyke,
But that his mother loved him best.
And nex’ to bein’ what I be--
The husband uv my gentle bride--
I’d wisht I wuz that croodlin’ wee,
With Lizzie wonderin’ ef I cried.

Dead soul
Nziza Kelly
A can is cherished while full,
then cast aside when empty.
Sleepless, you adore her
yet she leaves.

No sweetness can fill
a heart that isn't yours.
Even her kindest words sound ordinary as a friend.

An angel returns to haunt your dreams.
You wish you'd never met her, yet your heart still answers.

When love is not meant to be, patience cuts deeper than steel.

A fallen soldier
still loving her,
with no way to turn back.

The price of survival
Nziza Kelly
The city feels colder when the pocket is empty, while wealth makes even winter feel warm.
Sometimes the price of your perfume is another man's meal for a week.

Empty pockets can depress a man with a mountain of plans but no first step.
One meal cannot make a man secure; it only teaches him to hunger for the
next.

Those who kneel may one day lead, but genius means little when no one follows.

And remember where you stand— for every place has a substitute.

Me On a Rainy Day
Velvet Moon
Comfortable and slow I walk in the flooding downpour
Look up into the sky and wave a little “hi”

Then let it look down on me
And wash away what sadness is left in me
So that the brokenness and shame all falls silently away

And all that’s left is the rain that stays
To reveal a raw and dim light
ME
