The Story They Call Untold

Tsering Gurung
Far from boyhood and girlhood,
there lies an uncertainty about what is right and what is wrong,
yet now, it feels as though she has overlooked it all.
Far from parents, relatives, and beloved ones,
there lies an indescribable love and a longing to be with them,
yet these days, she feels as though she carries every role—
a brother, a sister, a parent, and a beloved one.
Far from friends, brothers, and sisters,
there lies an unspoken commitment to sharing, caring, and belonging,
yet nowadays, it seems that her bonds are fading
and her feelings remain suppressed.
Far from the members of communities and the residents of societies,
there lies an unspoken suffocation in the race between moving backward and moving forward,
yet now, she finds herself at a stage
where she can move neither backward nor forward.
Far from the busy schedules, corporate worlds, and institutions where she works,
there lies an unspoken intensity in navigating the corporate environment,
yet at this moment, it feels as though countless memories and flashbacks
are waiting to burst out all at once.
Far from beautiful moments and beautiful memories,
there lies an unspoken doubt:
Should she continue creating memories,
or cherish the memories she already has?
Yet these days, the opportunity to create new moments seems to be slipping away,
and even the memories she once treasured seem to be losing their place.
Far from the crowd and far from the city lights,
there lies an untold feeling of warmth and cold,
yet sometimes, life feels comforting,
while at other times, it feels unfamiliar and unwelcoming.
Far from the clear skies and shining sunlight,
there lies an unspoken battle between brilliance and mediocrity,
yet now, she feels like a forgotten presence
among hundreds of people and miles of distance.
Far from being healthy and being hospitalised,
there lies an inexpressible weight of a thousand words
caught between the heart and the throat,
yet suddenly, she realises that some things
should have been addressed before, not after,
She found herself lying in a hospital bed.
Far from the ages of twenty and ninety,
there lies an unremarkable struggle between becoming a successful person
and remaining a good one,
yet suddenly, the thought strikes her:
Can she ever go back and live those years again?
Far from dreams and fame,
there lies an unbelievable competition between being successful
and being famous,
yet now, it feels as though her dreams have been sacrificed
and the reputation she once hoped for remains out of reach.
Far from being a man or a woman,
there lies an unspoken struggle between being oneself
and becoming someone's life partner,
yet now, she seems to have lost her way,
caught in the middle of a road that leads nowhere.
Far from the journey of getting married and carrying a baby for nine months,
there lies an unimaginable race between demand and supply,
between being chosen and being treated as an option,
yet now, it makes her realise
what she feels is missing within her
and what others may have been deprived of.
Far from enjoying married life and stepping into parenthood,
there lie countless untold stories between husband and wife,
stories of love, compromise, and sacrifice,
yet now, some of those secrets and untold stories
have already been revealed by their children.
Far from the days when husbands and wives surprised each other,
there lies a profound and unspoken responsibility—
the responsibility of being parents,
yet now, this enduring responsibility takes her back
to the days when she was young,
as though life has brought her full circle.
Far from being aunts and uncles to nieces and nephews,
there lies an unseen affection,
a quiet love that often goes unexpressed,
Yet now, it feels as though she no longer exists in their lives.

Through All These Distant, Untold Stories
We must recognise the beauty of being alive.
We must listen to the beauty hidden within our unspoken stories
and honour the sacrifices behind our actions.
We must value the resilience and selflessness reflected in our choices,
in our struggles, and in our needs.
Above all, we must learn to cherish the time we have.
