Where the Light Stays
There are days
when the sky feels closer
than the ground beneath my feet.

I walk through quiet streets,
carrying conversations
I never had the courage to finish.

A window glows in the distance,
soft and warm against the evening,
and for a moment
I remember

not every light
is meant to lead us somewhere.

Some are simply there
to remind us
that darkness is never
the whole story.

So I keep walking,
slowly,
letting the night pass through me,

until somewhere between
the last shadow
and the first morning light,

I find a little piece
of myself
still waiting to be seen.
To the ----
Lady! the songs of Spring were in the grove
While I was framing beds for winter flowers;
While I was planting green unfading bowers,
And shrubs to hang upon the warm alcove,
And sheltering wall; and still, as fancy wove
The dream, to time and nature's blended powers
I gave this paradise for winter hours,
A labyrinth Lady! which your feet shall rove.
Yes! when the sun of life more feebly shines,
Becoming thoughts, I trust, of solemn gloom
Or of high gladness you shall hither bring;
And these perennial bowers and murmuring pines
Be gracious as the music and the bloom
And all the mighty ravishment of Spring.
Straight A's Student
I take my test daily.
I know I am always right,
preserving what's correct and erasing what's wrong,
There is an objective answer.
But how can I say this when I don't hold the red pen?
My Plant is Dying
My plant is dying.
It's leaves are turning brown.
I could give it more water,
Or I could pull its roots from the ground.
Dangerous Dog
The dog's mouth is foaming and he barks at his bath.
I learned how to help at school,
how to stop his illness.
Just prevent the virus of a living host.
So as my ears ring, Father walks in with the dog's medicine.
Shifting Shade
The group of students were of a higher existence than others.
They had directed their wills toward the truth,
and acted upon that will.
It is right to fight for the good, and just to punish evil.
For the worst aspect of evil is that evil thinks it is aimed at the good.
