I can't
I know it can’t just be me. I know that's true. I know there are others like me. Those who can’t stand mornings. Those who shut themselves out. Those who can’t succeed. They ask themselves why. They can’t seem to change. They’ve given up. I know there’s others like me. I also know. In this dark room, doing nothing, it doesn’t feel like others feel the way you do. It just feels… Utterly fucking depressing. Please anything, anyone, distract me from this depressing life of mine.
(Ahem...!) The way you look at me, my dearest friend, Has crossed the bounds of devotion's end. The light in your eyes, the way they shine, Has made your feelings known as mine. The way you blush when our eyes collide, And lower your gaze with nowhere to hide. It seems your heart has something to confess, Yet hides behind a veil of shyness. A thousand excuses to be by my side, To meet me again, though you try to hide. Your little pretences are no mystery, Yet every excuse tells a different story. Wherever I go, wherever I stay, You find your way, you come my way. When I'm not around, you search for me, Though you hide it all so carefully. I've heard that my thoughts keep you awake, That every night, your peace they take. And what of me? Even my name alone, Has found a home where your heart has grown. How long will you keep this secret concealed? When every unspoken feeling is revealed. The truth you once guarded so mysteriously, Is now known to the world for all to see.
They scream for fun on Halloween night, I screamed because I feared for my life. They dress as monsters, covered in red, I learned what real monsters look like instead. They laugh at the things that make me freeze, They go home safe, I beg for peace. They take off masks when the night is through, I wish the monsters I knew had one too. They call it horror, they call it a scare, They don't know what it's like to be trapped there. And every October, the date comes around, And I relive a night that still holds me down. The world celebrates, the streets shine bright, While I remember the worst of my life that night. They get to pretend that they're living in fear, I know what it's like when the danger is near. They scream for a second, then laugh it away, I screamed for my life, and I still feel that day. They paint on their bruises, then wash them away, And leave all their nightmares behind with the day. I wish I could wash off the things that I know, And leave all the memories with nowhere to go. They dress up as devils, as demons, as death, While I still remember each stolen breath. They think being frightened is part of a game, They'll never know fear that still carries a name. The shops fill with pumpkins, the streets fill with screams, While October brings back what haunts all my dreams. They count down the days till the fun can begin, I count down the hours till this date wears thin. And nobody notices, nobody knows, How a date on the calendar reopens old wounds. They see someone quiet and think I'm okay, They don't see the price that I pay for this day. I hate that a night they call innocent fun, Is the night I wish I could somehow outrun. I hate that their nightmares have endings and doors, While mine left me questioning what safety was for. And don't call me brave for surviving that night, I never asked for that particular fight. Don't turn me to strength just because I got through, I'm still just a person who never asked to. Because surviving's not magic, it doesn't erase, The pain that can follow you right into a safe place. And healing's not simple, not steady, not clean, It's fighting a battle that nobody's seen. So when streets come alive on October's last night, Don't tell me it's harmless, don't tell me it's fright. You can call it a holiday, a costume, a game, But you don't get to tell me it feels just the same. For you, it's one night, then November comes through, For you, it's a memory of costumes and things people do. But I can't dress up what that night did to me, Or pretend that the past is what I want it to be. And maybe one day, this date won't feel so cruel, Maybe I'll look back and feel something new. But for now, let me hate it; don't ask me to smile, I've been fighting these feelings for more than a while. Because Halloween ends when the clock strikes twelve, But the memories linger; they don't free themselves. You can take off a costume, turn out every light, But you can't just erase what you felt that night. You get one night a year to pretend you're afraid, I live with the memories that night has engraved. You scream for the thrill, then go back to what's right, I screamed for my life on Halloween night.
And then there exist a person who made me a poet. A soul whose presence made my words complete. To know him is to behold a poem. So pure in essence, yet unseen by anyone but concrete. Let the person be a mystery, just admire the phrases. Let his presence remain hidden, lost in life's mazes. He remains an inspiration for the verses that flow, A quiet spark that sets the creative mind aglow. Within the realm of words, the inspiration stays, A guiding theme reflected in many different ways. Though the world may never know who inspires my rhyme, He lives within my poetry, beyond the reach of time!
The World Can Wait _By Srishti_ The evening sky is calm and deep, The world around is fast asleep, After the rain, the earth smells new, With little drops like stars on view. The flowers bloom without asking why, They don't rush, they don't ask the sky, We were just too busy to be still sometimes, Running after endless chimes. Just a little silence, just a little me, Let the world wait, let my heart be free. #calm#nature#evening thought#peace
