Late Innings

First Verse
Nothing is at stake. The season is gone.
The stadium has the acoustics of a church on Monday.

A rookie doubles into the gap
in front of nine thousand people
who will not remember it by Friday,
and rounds first with his whole face lit,
because he will remember it in a nursing home.
