On Being Asked Where I Am From

First Verse
From a street that has been renamed.
From a kitchen with two languages
and one of them for arguing.

From the back seat of a car at night
watching the streetlights do their arithmetic.

From a name my teachers shortened
and my grandmother refused to.

From here. Also from there.
Ask a smaller question and I will give you
a smaller, easier lie.

First Verse
Ask a smaller question and I will give you a smaller lie. Devastating.
