The final rays of autumn
are streaming through the panes,
and my soul wants to linger
before the coming rain.
This year had felt so different
than all the years before -
I so enjoyed the sunshine,
and spending time outdoors.
But now that winter's stronghold
is slowly closing in,
I close my eyes with anguish
as drudgery begins.
Few things are quite so crushing
within the human heart
as when the hope of sunlight
so suddenly departs.
So brace your mind for winter -
there's nothing you can do -
and tell yourself each morning
that spring will come anew.
