The Man Who Waters the Median

First Verse
Nobody pays him. Nobody asked.
Every evening at seven, two buckets,
out to the strip of dirt between the lanes
where the city planted twelve trees and forgot.

Nine of them are alive.
That is his whole argument, and it is enough,
and it is better than most of the arguments
being made this year at greater volume.
