Rain on the Fire Escape

First Verse
All night the iron kept a small percussion,
a tin cup passed from step to step.

I woke to the city rinsed and blinking,
the gutters running like a sentence
that finally found its verb.

Nothing was fixed. Only washed.
Some mornings that is the whole repair.
